Who writes SleepOriginal

Leon Avelor

Founder & Lead Writer

SleepOriginal was founded by writer Leon Avelor to make practical sleep education easier to understand and use. Leon writes the guides, is not a physician, and the site publishes education rather than medical advice.

Leon Avelor is an independent writer and the founder of SleepOriginal, a sleep-education platform created to make better sleep easier to understand and put into practice.

Leon has a long-standing interest in the relationship between everyday habits, environment, timing and sleep. What began as personal curiosity turned into sustained reading and exploration of the practical side of sleep — how evening routines, light exposure, caffeine, bedroom conditions and daily schedules can influence the way people rest.

He created SleepOriginal to turn those ideas into clear, approachable resources for everyday readers. Rather than presenting sleep as something that has to be perfected, Leon's work focuses on helping people understand the signals that shape their nights and make realistic improvements one step at a time.

Through SleepOriginal he writes educational articles, practical guides and structured programs covering sleep timing, evening routines, bedroom environment, caffeine and other everyday influences on rest.

Leon is not a physician and does not diagnose or treat sleep disorders. SleepOriginal is an independent educational resource, and his work is not intended to replace individualized medical advice.

A note on the name. Leon Avelor is a pen name used by the creator of SleepOriginal for publishing general educational content about sleep habits and sleep environments. Writing under this name covers sleep routines, bedroom environments, relaxation, and everyday sleep habits. The name represents one person, not a team or an editorial board, and no clinical credentials are claimed under it. The business behind SleepOriginal is named in full under Business details below.

Better sleep starts with better habits — not better products.

Why this site exists

Most sleep advice online falls into one of two piles. There is the clinical literature, which is rigorous and largely unreadable unless you already know the vocabulary. And there is the content built to sell you something, where every problem resolves neatly into a product with an affiliate link attached.

SleepOriginal sits deliberately between the two. The aim is to take what sleep research actually supports and turn it into something you can act on tonight — while being honest that the highest-value changes are usually the ones that cost nothing.

That is not a marketing position. It is the finding. A consistent wake time, morning daylight, a cooler and darker room, and a wind-down you will actually repeat will do more for most people than anything on our shop page. We say so in the guides, before we mention any product, because it is true.

How a guide gets written

Every article here follows the same process:

  1. Start from the question people actually ask. Not a keyword, a question — "why do I wake at 3am", "does reading before bed help". The article has to answer it directly and early.
  2. Read the research before writing. Where a claim rests on evidence, that evidence gets checked rather than inherited from another article that inherited it from a third.
  3. Lead with what is free. Behaviour, timing and environment come first. Always.
  4. Be specific about uncertainty. Sleep science is genuinely unsettled in places. Where the evidence is thin or mixed, the guide says so instead of rounding it up to a confident answer.
  5. State who something is wrong for. Every product recommendation names who should skip it. A recommendation that suits everyone is a recommendation that has not been thought about.
  6. Revisit. Guides are updated when the evidence or the products change, and the update date is shown on the page.

Our evidence policy sets out how sources are chosen and cited in more detail.

How this site makes money

Two ways, and you should know both.

Our own guides. We write and sell digital sleep guides. When you buy one, you are buying it from us directly.

Affiliate commission. When you buy a recommended product through our links, the retailer may pay us a commission. The price you pay is identical either way — you are never charged more for using our link.

The obvious risk in that second model is that it quietly bends what gets recommended. So, plainly: commission rates play no part in what we recommend or how we rank things. We do not accept payment for a favourable review, a ranking position, or inclusion in a comparison. Where the honest answer is "you probably do not need to buy anything", that is what the guide says. Our affiliate disclosure covers this in full.

What we do not do

  • We do not give medical advice. Nothing here diagnoses, treats or replaces a conversation with a doctor. Our medical disclaimer explains where that line sits and when to seek help.
  • We do not claim to have tested products in a lab. Recommendations are built from documented design, specifications and category behaviour. Where we have not tested something ourselves, we do not pretend otherwise.
  • We do not publish fake or incentivised reviews. No invented customers, no five-star testimonials written in-house.
  • We do not sell your data. See the privacy policy for exactly what is collected and why.
  • We do not promise outcomes. Sleep is individual. Anyone guaranteeing you a fixed number of extra hours is selling something.

About the sleep quiz

Our quiz suggests which of our guides is likely to suit your situation. That is all it does. It is an editorial tool, not a screening or diagnostic instrument, it produces no medical assessment, and your answers are not used to infer anything about your health or shared with product partners.

Corrections and disagreement

If something here is wrong, we would rather know. Send the page and what you think is inaccurate, ideally with a source, and it gets checked. Substantive corrections are made to the article itself rather than buried in a footnote.

If you disagree with a recommendation, that is also worth sending. Several guides have changed because a reader made a better argument than the one already on the page.

Get in touch

Questions, corrections, or a recommendation you think is wrong — all welcome.
